The UPR Inclusive Restroom Scandal

Concerning the UPR’s conversion of male and female restrooms

into so called “inclusive bathrooms”

The Western world is currently witnessing an epidemic of the poorly named mental illness “gender dysphoria.” This is defined as anxiety or distress, allegedly caused by a perceived incongruence between the so called “gender identity” of a man or woman and the “gender” socially assigned to them. In most cases, this condition disappears with the mere passing of time.

The problem with this definition is that gender is not a scientific concept, just as gender identity is not. Gender identity’s subjective and changeable nature (e.g., as evidenced by the phenomenon of de-transition) means it lacks scientific status. Gender, as a social category recognized by society, inherits this non-scientific status because it is a cultural construct, not an objectively measurable phenomenon. Both are studied by social sciences (e.g., anthropology, psychology), but their reliance on cultural norms and subjective recognition excludes them from being scientific concepts like biological sex. Thus “gender” is an ideology rather than a science.

The University of Puerto Rico’s conversion of male and female restrooms into so called “inclusive bathrooms” is but one reflection of its obsessive promotion of gender ideology.

The UPR administration claims that there are no problems with such bathrooms. However, it ignores that:

  1. Inclusive restrooms, by providing societal recognition, greatly worsen the current epidemic of gender dysphoria among vulnerable young people leading them to undergo irreversible “treatments” such as chemical castration (via puberty blockers) and/or genital mutilation. Many girls have had their breasts removed, not because of a serious medical condition but because of gender dysphoria and social pressure. Children cannot consent to disfiguring “treatments” which cause infertility, and lifelong physical and psychological problems leading to increased suicide rates. In reality, sufferers of gender dysphoria cannot alter their sex which is determined by chromosomes. Transition between XX and XY is not an option. It is an impossibility.
  2. Including trans individuals in what should be sex-segregated spaces and events (such as bathrooms, sports, prisons) has created conflict and crime wherever it has been tried. For example, in sports, trans athletes (born male) retain physical advantages, affecting fairness for biological women.
  3. The gender ideology leads to censorship of dissenting opinions, labelling them as “transphobic.” This limits open debate leading to social or legal sanctions and the erosion of freedom of expression as seen in cases in Canada and the UK.

If the UPR really cared about its students, it would not affirm lifestyles which lead to quack medical procedures which cure nothing and shorten life expectancy.
